The Regula 7517 is designed as a compact workstation for non-destructive magneto-optical recovery of firearms and ammunition identification numbers.  It is used for restoration of fully or partial destroyed identification numbers of ferromagnetic materials.  It also allows surface examinations of nonferromagnetic materials in order to look for original identification number tampering.

 

Principals of operation is that the object is initially demagnetised and magnetic tape is placed on the surface where the serial number would normally occur.  One of the scanners either 7515A or 7515B is connected to a controller used in conjunction with the magnetising equipment 7515C and is used to investigate the internal stress in thick walled ferromagnetic materials. The controller forms a voltage with preset parameters and feeds these to the scanners.  The Scanner is moved along the tape and analysed with detector and software.

  • Additional equipment: Peripherals Regula 7516 (supplied optionally) can be used either as a separate device for non-/destructive examination of metal surface, or together with Regula 7517 expanding functionality of the latter.
  • Portability and operability: Regula 7517 is constructed in a protective case. There are three options of power supply sources: internal PC battery, external PC power supply source, converting AC voltage of 110–240 V into DC voltage of PC power supply, and external PC power supply source, converting DC voltage of the vehicle on-board system (nominal value — 12/24/48 V) into DC voltage of PC power supply.

 

The Kit consists of the following:

 

  • Regula 7515A Scanner:  A USB controlled device for magneto-optical visualisation.   The device is used for:-

 

– step-by-step scanning of magnetic tape with the recorded data and obtaining a panoramic image of firearms and ammunition identification numbers

– indicating the status of device systems

– converting a magneto-optical image into a digital video signal

 

  • Magnetic copying set: The device is also supplied with a Magnetic copying kit which includes a combination magnetic scanner-demagnetizer with the set of replaceable concentrators, magnetic tape clamps, magnetic tape cartridges, etc. The accessories set is used for:

 

– creating a physical copy of magnetic stray fields distribution over the object surface using magnetic tape. The copy reflects relief and structural inhomogeneity of the material

– demagnetizing magnetic tapes for further use

– arranging, marking, storing and carrying extra magnetic tape and recorded magnetic copies

– service functions while performing magnetic copying

 

  • Eddy-current magnetographing device Regula 7517B Scanner

The device consists of a controller constructed in metal body and scanners used for non-destructive examination of the structure of electroconductive non-ferromagnetic and ferromagnetic materials.

 

  • Magnetizing equipment Regula 7517C

Which is constructed as a magnetising desk with brackets, planks, etc. The magnetizing equipment is intended for producing magnetic stray fields in thick-walled ferromagnetic objects and their registration during the examination process.

 

  • NUCA software.

 

The software is used for loading and processing images of identification numbers:

 

– comparing image fragments

– measuring linear and angle dimensions

– saving and printing obtained images
